They are commonly required for passports, a Social Insurance Number, estate and pension matters, name changes and many other everyday processes.

Saskatchewan asks for more from the applicant than most provinces: identification is required with every request, and several eligibility routes need supporting documents on top of that.

Who Can Request a Certificate?

Who may request a certificate depends on the type of record:

  • For a birth certificate: the person named on the record, from age 15, or a parent named on the registration of birth while that person is under 18
  • For a marriage certificate: either party to the marriage, or a child of the couple aged 18 or over
  • For a death certificate: the spouse, a parent named on the birth registration, or an adult child aged 18 or over

Every route requires identification, and some routes need further documents such as a court order, a power of attorney or letters probate. If your situation is one of those, contact us before ordering and we will tell you what eHealth Saskatchewan asks for.

As a matter of our own service policy, our assistance service is currently available only to residents of Canadian provinces other than Quebec. Eligibility to receive the certificate is determined exclusively by the Vital Statistics Registry of eHealth Saskatchewan.

eHealth Saskatchewan does not publish an estimated processing time. Instead it publishes the date of the requests it is currently working through, which you can check on its own website. That means the wait depends on the size of the queue when your request arrives, and delivery time is additional. We do not guarantee processing times, which are set entirely by eHealth Saskatchewan.

Yes. All information is handled using secure systems and in accordance with applicable data protection regulations, including PIPEDA. Identification documents are used only to submit your request and are deleted once it has been submitted. We take confidentiality and privacy very seriously and never sell or share your data.
